What Does It Mean to Turn Pro?

Turning pro, according to Pressfield, means adopting a professional mindset towards your work and creative pursuits. It’s about treating your ambitions with the same dedication and seriousness that a professional athlete, artist, or businessperson brings to their career. Pressfield writes, “The amateur plays for fun. The professional plays for keeps.”

Characteristics of a Professional

1. Commitment:

  • A professional is committed to their work and shows up every day, regardless of whether they feel like it. Pressfield emphasizes, “The professional shows up every day. The professional stays on the job all day.”
