Welcome to the sixth installment of our 10-part series inspired by Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art. In previous articles, we’ve discussed recognising Resistance, adopting a professional mindset, establishing daily practices, and harnessing fear. Today, we’ll tackle one of the most pervasive forms of Resistance: self-doubt. This article will provide tools and exercises to strengthen your self-confidence and combat the self-doubt that fuels Resistance.

Understanding Self-Doubt

Self-doubt is the nagging voice that questions your abilities, undermines your confidence, and makes you second-guess your decisions. Pressfield notes, “Resistance will tell you anything to keep you from doing your work. It will perjure, fabricate, falsify; seduce, bully, cajole.” Self-doubt is one of Resistance’s most effective tools because it attacks from within, making you your own worst critic.

The Impact of Self-Doubt

Self-doubt can be paralysing, preventing you from starting new projects, pursuing opportunities, or reaching your full potential. It manifests in various ways, including:

  • Imposter Syndrome: The belief that you’re not as competent as others think you are and that you’ll be exposed as a fraud.
