Garlic Cloves Or Macadamia Nuts: My Attempt To Fit In

I thought I was doing great fitting in with a crowd that I had never thought I would be a part of. We were eating and drinking. We would be sharing stories and I was just trying my best to fit in.

As I asked for another serving of the sides, the guy that I had been wanting to impress asked me if I get bad breath from eating too much garlic?

I told him that it only affects me if I eat too many whole cloves of the stuff.

He then looked at me and said, “It’s going to be a big night then hey?”

I look down at the side dish to realise that instead of having eaten Macadamia Nuts all night with my Bulgogi beef at a Korean BBQ restaurant, I had been eating whole cloves of Garlic like it was going to run out.

I was completely embarrassed.

In that moment I could have crawled up into a ball and wished that time would just go by.

In hindsight, this experience taught me a valuable lesson.

I knew something wasn’t right when I was eating the garlic, it didn’t taste like salted nuts but I was too afraid to ask what there were…
