I am an avid consumer of podcasts. I am guilty however of passively listening to them and only getting limited insights from the treasure troves of wisdom that they contain.

That passive listening habit changed once I started creating content.

This is why.

But first, let’s be clear, value can be found in any piece of content whether it is for entertainment, life advice or business wisdom.

It may seem at a glance that a few people chatting may not spur many ideas but you would be mistaken.

These conversations can provide immeasurable insight into the broader human condition. When people are having a miscellaneous conversation it can illuminate for the audience what is on the minds of those around them and in particular helps to bridge the mental gap between them and how their idols think.

From this stance, you can start to identify a range of concerns that they have mentioned on the podcast and write about the ones that overlap with your area of expertise or intrigue.

Listening to business or self-help podcasts is no different except that you are already primed to be listening for insights in these podcasts because of their advertised content selection.
