Opportunity Is A Function Of Density

Every job that I have worked at has come off the back of being surrounded by opportunities and people. Yet I am sitting alone in a foreign country musing on a beach with no connections and just fiddling away hoping to make something happen.

These two sides to the equation aren’t equalling out.

I started to think about this concept as a result of listening to Scott Galloway, a serial entrepreneur, Author, and investor. He discussed the need for particularly younger people when they are starting their careers to move to social and business hubs.

He vehemently supported his stance on this fact based on his perception and experience which indicated to him the importance of being surrounded by people ahead of you to increase your chances of opportunities arising. Or more simply put:

Opportunity is a Function of Density

When I thought about how his statement related to my own life it was very true. When I have been surrounded by people more opportunities have come my way.

Aspects of this thought which I have expanded upon is that density is not the sole indicator of increased opportunities. If you move from a small thousand-person town to a city with millions of people but that city is built around industry rather than technology and…
